  1. The sound itself was a huge improvement from the "Lonely Bull" and "Volume 2" albums. Herb Alpert's impeccable arrangements are high caliber as well. Backed by members of the Wrecking Crew Alpert opens up the album with a rather rocking version of "South Of The Border". A classic TJB sound captures the bossa classic "Girl From Ipanema"/5(55).

  2. Another wonderful album by Herb and his Tijuana Brass. This album is almost as great as his Whipped Cream and Other Delights album but this album doesn't have a naked woman covered in whipped cream. So this is his second greatest album. This album has fantastic renditions of "The Girl From Ipanema", "Hello, Dolly!", and "South of the Border". creates a very relaxing mood and is just a treat .

  4. Herb Alpert was still using an array of SoCal studio all-stars as his Tijuana Brass when South of the Border () began to restore the combo's good name after the modest Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, Vol. 2 () failed to ignite a fire in listener's ears. Alpert later commented that the Sol Lake composition "Mexican Shuffle" "opened a new door for me."Brand: Herb Alpert Presents.

  7. Feb 08,  · Musically, this is arguably Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass' finest material. If you haven't audtioned this music, I hope that you give it a go. I feel the highlights are "South Of The Border", "The Girl From Ipanema" [yes, there really is such a place], "Up Cherry Street", and "Mexican Shuffle" (which you may remember as 'Teaberry Shuffle', made /5(64).

  8. Sep 17, - This was the third album by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass, and one of my mom's favorites, although I don't remember her playing this one as much as a couple of the later ones. Several cover songs on this album, but my favorite song is "Mexican Shuffle". Kinda hard to believe Herb is 75 years old, but his music is a.
